Steps:

  1. Use an iOpener to loosen the adhesive beneath the display, focusing on the upper and lower part of the display.
  2. Use an opening pick, or iFlex, to separate the adhesive on all sides of the display.
  3. To avoid damage to the display, do not push the tool too deeply into the phone.

  5. There is a thin display cable between the screen and phone, be very careful not to rip it when opening the device.
  6. Place a suction cup, or iSclack, on the upper portion of the phone and lift the display off the midframe.
  7. Don't remove the display, the cable is trapped under a bracket screwed to the phone. You can flip the display to lay it down without straining the cable, or simply hold it in the next steps.

  9. Remove the 3.3 mm-long Phillips screw securing the display flex connector bracket.

  11. Open the metal bracket that covers the display flex cable.
  12. Use a spudger to disconnect the display flex cable.
  13. Remove the display.
  14. When reassembling your phone replace old adhesive with double-sided tape or pre-cut adhesive strips.

  16. Remove the 13 Phillips #00 screws.
  17. Remove the metal shield which holds down the display flex connector.

  19. Remove the SIM card tray.
  20. Use the pointed end of a spudger to pry out the mid frame until you can get a good grip.

  22. Remove the mid frame.
  23. Disconnect the battery flex cable with a spudger.

  25. There is a stretch-release adhesive tab between the battery and the motherboard, use tweezers to pull them from the gap before you begin pulling.
  26. Peel out the adhesive strip by steadily pulling at the tab in a flat angle.
  27. If the adhesive strip breaks, you can grab and twist it around a tweezers tip a couple of times and continue to pull.
  28. Follow the heating instructions and place an iOpener over the battery to soften the remaining adhesive strip.

  30. In the following steps it is important to avoid bending or puncturing the battery, damage can result in battery fire.
  31. The daughterboard interconnect cable runs beneath the right side of the battery, as shown in red. Avoid prying in this area.
  32. Insert a spudger beneath the top left corner of the battery and carefully pry it out. You can also use an old gift card or credit card.
  33. If you can lever the battery to the right and remove it, do so, otherwise cut the remaining adhesive on the left side. Then repeat the procedure on the right side of the battery, avoiding the cable area.

  35. Remove the battery.
  36. When reassembling your phone, replace old adhesive with stretch release adhesive strips, double-sided tape, or pre-cut adhesive strips.
