Steps:

1. To repair a short in the wires, the head band has two screws, just above the headphones cups.

2. After removing the two small screws, try closing the headband to it's shortest position. The outer panel will pop out toward the bottom edge.
3. You can then slide the panel out from under the collar. The collar may slide out of place while working, but can easily be slid back during re-assembly.

4. After inspecting the wire inside, you may notice cracks in the corners were the wires bend when the headphones are folded. I cut a thin strip of electrical tape to use as reinforcement.
5. After sliding the collar up, you can extend the wire, giving you better access for wrapping or replacing.
