How To Fix a Broken Bra Hook

Steps:

  1. Use a seam ripper to rip off the seams on either side of the broken hook and also the edge seam.
  2. Make sure to not rip off the seam of other hooks.
  3. Point the head of the seam ripper away from you to prevent poking yourself

  5. Remove the broken hook from the strap.
  6. Pull or cut off the threads that are still attached to the strap.

  8. Insert the new hook into the strap.
  9. Use fingers to hold the hook in the strap.

  11. Place the tip of the pin next to the new hook.
  12. Make sure the pin is placed in the middle of the hook.
  13. Push the pin until it goes through the strap and reach for back of the pin.
  14. Point the tip of the pin next to the other side of the hook.
  15. Push pin again to make it go through to the front of the strap.
  16. Push the pin slowly to avoid poking yourself!

  18. Put the hooks into the eyes of the bra to make sure hook is placed correctly.

  20. Thread needle with thread the same color as the bra.
  21. Pull the thread through to an appropriate length.
  22. Approx. 10-12 inches.

  25. Tie the thread into a knot at the end of the thread.
  26. Tie two or three times for a thicker knot.

  28. Cut the excess thread off with the scissors.
  29. Do as close as possible to the knot for a clean seam.

  31. Feel around for one of the two holes at the bottom of the new hook.
  32. This will not be visible and may take some time to locate.
  33. Stick the threaded needle through the hole of the hook.
  34. Use a backstitch to sew the hook into place.
  35. Repeat this for the other hole in the same hook.
  36. Always watch out for the tip of the needle while sewing!

  38. Make a large loop with the thread when finished sewing the hook into place.
  39. Place your finger on the point where you would like the knot to be and pull on the thread.

  43. Do this as close as possible to the knot for no loose threads.

  50. Hand stitch the edge using a backstitch to close the seam.
  51. Pay attention to the tip of the needle to avoid poking your fingers!

  53. Tie a knot at the end when you finish closing the seam.
  54. Hold finger down on the thread to make sure the knot is as close to the bra as possible.
  55. Knot two or three times.
