Steps:

  1. Use a 13 mm socket to remove the two nuts securing the sprocket guard plate.

  5. If the chainsaw has a chain and guide bar installed, follow the manufacturer's instructions and remove them before proceeding.
  6. During reassembly, if you are reinstalling the chain and guide bar, follow the manufacturers instructions on proper chain tensioning techniques.

  8. Remove the four 12 mm long T27 screws securing the chain brake cover.

  10. Remove the chain brake cover.

  12. Twist the tension screw clockwise until the slide bar stops at the right end.
  13. Remove the single 15.7 mm long T27 screw holding the chain tensioner assembly in place.

  15. Use your fingers to pull the assembly out of its recess and remove it.

  17. If the packing ring did not come out with the assembly, remove it from the recess.

  19. The next three steps show how to prepare the new tensioning assembly for replacement.
  20. Lightly lubricate the packing ring and press it into the back of the adjustment screw.

  22. Slide the adjustment screw into the tensioning assembly such that the gears mesh together.

  24. Slide the shaped plastic bearing onto the end of the assembly.
  25. Lightly lubricate all moving surfaces.

  27. Line up the tensioning assembly with its recess in the chainsaw and push it into the recess.
  28. Make sure that the black plastic bearing slides in rounded-edge first.
