Steps:

  1. Flip the laptop over.
  2. Peel off the rubber strip closest to the hinges.
  3. Step image
  4. Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver (PH1 bit) to remove the four 6.5mm screws that were underneath the rubber strip.

  6. Use a Torx T5 screwdriver (T5 bit) to remove the three 5mm screws near the bottom edge of the laptop.
  7. Step image
  8. Lift the back panel to remove it from the laptop.
  9. Use an opening tool to pry open the back panel if it does not easily lift apart.
  10. Step image
  11. Detach the tape securing the heatsink to the laptop.
  12. Step image
  13. Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver (PH1 bit) to loosen the four screws securing heatsink.
  14. The screws do not detach from the heatsink.
  15. Step image
  16. Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver (PH1 bit) to remove the three 4mm screws from the fan.
  17. Step image
  18. Detach the cable connecting the fan and laptop by pulling from the white connector.
  19. Step image
  20. Remove the fan from the laptop.
  21. During reinstallation, be sure to remove old thermal paste on both the heatsink and CPU contact points. Then, reapply thermal paste using our How to Apply Thermal Paste guide.
