Steps:

  1. Download the latest firmware from Kenwood
  2. Copy the firmware to the USB stick in the root directory
  3. Insert the USB stick into the USB port of the radio. (Front or cable on the back doesn't matter)
  4. Make sure the radio recognizes the USB stick. E.g. If there is an mp3 file on the USB stick, this can be tested by simply playing the MP3. This ensures that the USB stick is correctly formatted.
  5. Use the "SRC" button to put the radio in "STANDBY" mode.
  6. Display the menu by pressing the volume knob.
  7. Select the item "SYSTEM" and press the volume button.
  8. Then select the item "F/W UPDATE" and press the volume button.
  9. Then select "UPDATE SYSTEM" and press the volume button twice.
  10. Then select "YES" and press the volume button.

  11. The radio switches itself off briefly and then back on again
  12. The display shows "UPDATING".
  13. after approx. 5 minutes the display shows "COMPLETED".
  14. You can only continue here when "COMPLETED" is displayed
  15. Detach the front panel with the release button on the bottom left
  16. Press the reset button in the radio body
  17. Reattach the front panel
  18. If the radio is now switched on again with the "SRC" button, the DEMO mode should start and the update should be completed.
  19. All old settings can now be set again.
