Steps:

  1. Press down on the Center and Menu buttons until the iPod restarts.
  2. If your iPod is dead, plug it in and make sure the Hold Switch located on top of the device is in the unlocked position.
  3. When you do this, it's important to restart into the iPod's default OS.

  4. Hold down the Previous Track and Center buttons.
  5. The screen should display the Apple logo. Once the screen turns white, it is safe to release the two buttons.

  6. Navigation of the Menu will help out with using the iPod to figure out its problem.
  7. Press Menu to return to the previous screen, or the next screen in some cases.
  8. The Center button executes the function currently selected.
  9. Skip Track and Previous Track buttons are used to scroll through the lines.
