Steps:

  1. Lay the chair down.
  2. If the chair is too heavy to turn upside down, have someone help you do it.

  4. Wipe the stem of the caster with a rag or paper towel to remove any dust or debris.

  6. Use a flathead screwdriver in between the caster and the base of the chair to pry the wheel out of the socket.
  7. Turn the screwdriver gently until the caster starts to move upwards away from the chair.
  8. Try rotating the screwdriver at different angles if the caster won't come out.

  10. Use a prying tool that is big enough to fit between the caster and over the stem.
  11. Gently pull on the caster upwards and it should come off.

  13. Measure the wheel's height and length.
  14. Once you've done that, purchase your new casters.
  15. Large casters(about 3"), are more durable and versatile. Twin-wheel casters are usually used in office settings.
