Steps:

  1. Place the laptop upside-down with the display hinges facing away from you.

  3. Slide the latch for the left battery bay to the left.

  5. Slide the latch for the right battery bay to the right and hold.
  6. Continue to hold the latch while using a plastic opening tool to lift and remove the battery bay cover.
  7. Remove the battery.

  9. Loosen the two captive screws on the bottom left corner of the hard drive using a Phillips #1 screwdriver until you hear a click.

  11. Lift the hard drive cover using a non-marring iFixit opening tool.
  12. This will expose the hard drive.

  14. Slide the hard drive to the left using your fingers.
  15. Remove the hard drive by inserting an iFixit opening tool under the right side of the hard drive and carefully lifting it out.

  17. Using a Phillips #1 screwdriver, turn the screw on the RAM cover until you hear a click.
  18. This is a captive panel screw and remains with the cover.

  20. Remove the RAM cover by inserting the plastic opening tool into the indent and lifting.

  22. Push the white and silver retaining clips away from each side of the RAM card using your fingernails.
  23. The RAM card should pop up at an angle.

  25. Pull the RAM card away from the computer.
  26. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 to remove the other RAM card that may be installed.

  28. Place the laptop right-side-up so the screen faces you.

  30. Remove the strip of plastic at the right furthermost edge of the keyboard using a plastic opening tool.
  31. Insert the plastic opening tool at either end of the strip.
  32. Lift upwards and proceed to the other end while repeating this lifting process every one to two inches.

  34. CAUTION: do not allow hardware or debris into the CPU fan and duct.
  35. Remove the two 3-mm screws at the top edge of the keyboard using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
  36. These are not captive panel screws and, once loosened, will be free to move about the assembly.

  38. Pry the top of the keyboard loose from its casing using a plastic opening tool.

  40. Gently grasp the top of the keyboard and pull it up and toward the screen.
  41. CAUTION: Pulling too hard could damage the black ribbon cable under the keyboard.

  43. Gently push the two tabs locking the black ribbon cable.
  44. To remove the black ribbon cable from the motherboard, slide the keyboard toward the screen.
  45. You may now safely separate the keyboard from the laptop.

  49. For the following steps, use a Phillips #1 screwdriver.
  50. Remove the twelve 6-mm screws that border the bottom of the laptop.
  51. Remove the 6-mm screw located in the lower middle of the device.
  52. Remove the three 3-mm screws located in the battery bay.
  53. Remove the one 4-mm screw located near the RAM.

  55. Place the laptop right-side-up so the screen faces you.

  58. Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver to remove the five 6-mm screws in the keyboard slot.
  59. These are not captive panel screws and, once loosened, will be free to move about the assembly.

  61. Lock the white ribbon cable into place by gently pulling on the two black tabs.
  62. Remove the white ribbon cable by pulling it towards you.
  63. Remove the connector that has the blue, red, black, and white wires using tweezers.

  65. Separate the laptop upper casing from the lower casing by using an opening tool around the sides of the case to pry it apart.

  67. Using a Philips #1 screwdriver, remove the four 6-mm screws from the two metal tabs that connect the screen to the body.

  69. Using tweezers, remove two connectors: one with black and white wires and one with green, yellow, red, black, and white wires.
  70. Using your fingers, remove the large connector from the top right corner of the motherboard.

  72. Using the Phillips #1 or Phillips #00 screwdriver, remove the two 3-mm screws from the card with black and white wires coming off of it.
  73. Our card has one screw that required a Philips #1 and one that required a Philips #00. Start with the Philips #1 and, if it doesn't fit, use the Philips #00.
  74. The card should pop up. Gently remove the card with your fingers.

  76. Remove the screen using your hands and put it aside.

  78. Using tweezers, pry the rubber feet out of the corners of the laptop.

  80. Using a Phillips #1 screwdriver, remove the four 4-mm screws at the corners of the screen.

  82. Using a plastic opening tool, pry off the top of the screen casing.

  84. Using a Phillips #1 screwdriver, remove the four 4-mm screw.
  85. Using a Philips #1 screwdriver, remove the one 6-mm screw.

  87. Using your hands, remove the small connectors from the small board attached to the bottom of the LCD screen.
  88. In order to access the second connector, you will need to remove the protective plastic cover. Make sure to put this back on when installing the next screen.

  90. Using a Phillips #1 screwdriver, remove the six 3-mm screws from the sides of the screen. There should be three on each side.
  91. Using your hands, remove the two metal strips the screws were holding.
