How to Dye a Used Shirt

Steps:

  1. The dye used for this guide is Rit DyeMore.
  2. Buy the product and make sure to read the instructions on the bottle.
  3. Weigh your shirt & follow instructions on the bottle according to weight to determine how much dye is needed.
  4. Pre-wash your clothing item and prepare your materials and work area.

  6. Add enough water in a stainless steel pot to let the clothing item move freely.

  8. Add 1 tsp of dish detergent to the pot.

  10. Cover the pot and let the water reach close to boiling temperature ~200 degrees Fahrenheit.

  12. Add the desired amount of dye that was measured via the bottle to the water and turn the stove top temperature to simmer.

  14. Place wet clothing item in the solution.
  15. Stir slowly for 10 minutes.

  17. After the desired color is achieved, remove the item from the solution.
  18. Rinse the clothing item with warm water.
  19. Gradually use cooler water until the water runs clear.
  20. Wash the clothing item in warm water.
  21. Dry and enjoy your new clothing item!
