Steps:

1. Flip the power switch into the STOP position.
2. Make sure the engine is cool to the touch before proceeding.

3. Pull the spark plug cap straight off of the spark plug.

4. Use a 5/8-inch spark plug socket to remove the spark plug from the engine.

5. Check if the spark plug is fouled and replace it if necessary.
6. The spark plug pictured in this step is in new condition.

7. Follow the instruction provided with your compression test kit to connect a compression tester to the cylinder.

8. Pull the starter 5–10 times to build pressure in the combustion chamber.

9. Read the compression gauge.
10. Pressure should read 125–165 psi (8.6–11.4 bar).
