Pentax Optio WG-3 GPS Motherboard Replacement

Steps:

  1. Turn over the camera so the screen is facing up.
  2. Remove the four 5 mm Phillips #000 screws that secure the outer cover.
  3. Step image
  4. Flip over the camera so the bottom is facing up.
  5. Use the Phillips PH0005 again to remove one more 5mm screw.
  6. Remove the cover.
  7. Step image
  8. Remove the eight 5 mm Phillips #000 screws holding the circuitry together.
  9. Step image
  10. Carefully remove the circuitry.
  11. Step image
  12. There is a large silver sticker on top of the motherboard, gently remove it off of the motherboard.
  13. Step image
  14. Gently use the spudger set to lift open the clamps that are holding the orange ribbons down.
  15. Pull out the ribbons and remove the motherboard from the body of the camera.

  17. Remove the battery on the back of the motherboard.
  18. Step image
  19. Unscrew and remove one 2 mm Phillips #00 screw to remove the flash component on the top of the circuitry.
  20. Step image
  21. Remove three 5 mm Phillips #000 screws from the left side of the motherboard.
  22. Step image
  23. Remove two ribbon cables from the small circuit.
  24. Remove the ribbon cable that holds the sensor to the motherboard.

  26. The sensor is ready to be pulled out, carefully remove the sensor.

  28. Unscrew and remove three 5 mm screws from the front panel of the battery compartment.
  29. Step image
  30. Pull the black panel away from the front panel.

  32. At the top of the circuit board there are three soldered dots that need to be unsoldered to remove the back of the battery component from the motherboard.
  33. The motherboard can now be pulled and replaced.
