Steps:

1. Starting with an empty duffel, unzip and open the main zipper compartment.
2. Then unzip the zipper on the inside liner to access the handle assembly.
3. Patagonia Repair Tech Tip: To increase visibility, push the liner fabric out of the way and use an extra light source like a flashlight or headlamp.

4. Locate the top and bottom handle brackets.
5. Use a Phillips PH2 screwdriver to remove the seven screws securing the handle brackets:
6. Five screws from the top handle bracket
7. Two screws from the bottom handle bracket
8. Set the screws aside to be reused.

9. Remove the top handle bracket and set it aside. Don't discard it.

10. Remove the handle from the duffel by pulling the entire handle assembly (including the plastic housing) away from the duffel body.
11. Push the duffel fabric inward, away from the plastic handle housing, to separate it from the duffel.
12. Once the plastic housing is detached from the duffel, the handle can be pulled out completely.
13. Discard the damaged handle responsibly.

14. Insert the new handle into the duffel. Both posts of the handle should slide securely into the bottom handle bracket.
15. Align the screw posts on the plastic housing with the holes at the top of the duffel.
16. The handle is fully inserted when the plastic housing is flush with the duffel body.

17. Once the new handle is in place, return to the inside of the duffel and reinstall the screws into the bottom handle bracket.
18. Gently hand‑tighten the screws to avoid stripping the screw wells.

19. Place the top handle bracket back into place on top of the handle housing and ensure that the screw holes of the handle bracket align with the screw posts of the handle housing.
20. Use a Phillips PH2 screwdriver to install the five screws securing the top handle bracket while holding the bracket in place.
21. Follow the sequential order noted in the third photo.
22. Gently hand‑tighten the screws to avoid stripping the screw wells.
23. Lift the handle bracket at each screw location to ensure it's securely in place.

24. Test that the handle works properly. Move the handle into all positions and ensure it locks securely at each position:
25. Fully extended
26. Middle position (medium and small duffels only)
27. Fully collapsed into the handle housing

28. Zip the inside liner and the main compartment to restore the duffel for use.
