Steps:

1. As other sonicare repair guides show, the base plug is only held in by friction. If you squeeze the sides it will open a gap you can slip a screwdriver in and lever out the base. A bit of cardboard protects the sides from cosmetic damage.
2. Have a look to an alternative opening procedure.

3. There are 2 tabs that prevent the insides sliding out. Release these with a small screwdriver while pushing the metal shaft at the other end, and when both tabs are free the innards will slide out.

4. The screw circled was loose. Tightening this fixed the unpleasant noise. I had to use threadlocker to stop it coming loose again.
