Steps:

  1. Open driver side door.
  2. Lift the car hood lever until you hear your hood release.
  3. If your hood release lever has a "2x" symbol, this indicates a double-pull hood release lever. Pull the lever once, release the lever, and pull it a second time to release the hood latch.
  4. Slide your hand under the hood and lift it up.
  5. If your BMW does not have a double-pull release lever, find the release latch under the BMW symbol on the hood. Push or lift this latch to unlock the hood.

  6. Using the socket wrench, start unbolting all six external bolts.
  7. Release the cabin air filter from the hood.

  8. Pop out the old air filter.
  9. Place the new air filter into the air filter cover.

  10. Place the cabin air filter under the hood.
  11. Screw in all six external hex screws back into place using the socket wrench.
