Steps:

1. Hold the lid with the button facing down.
2. Twist the flat part in the direction of the arrows or counter clockwise.

3. Firmly pinch both the half-moon shaped openings.
4. Pull up the removed outer piece and set it aside.

5. Place the lid perpendicular and onto the top of the container's opening.
6. The button should pop out. Placing the lid on a flat surface will prevent them from coming out.
7. Locate the two holes.

8. With a tool in each hand, insert them into the openings of the buttons.
9. Make sure the two tools are centered on the plastic in the openings.
10. Tools must be small enough to fit inside the openings - alternatives to spudgers work.
11. Firmly press downwards until the button pops out.
12. Applying a lot of pressure is necessary, but also may damage the plastic of the lid.

13. Flip the lid so the button faces up.
14. It should be easy to pinch the sides of the button so that it pops up.
15. Pinch the two sides and gently pull up.
16. Remove the button.

17. Flip the button so the inside wire faces upwards.
18. Use pliers to bend the wire similar to its original shape.
19. Use the unbent wire as a reference to reshape the bent wire.
