Steps:

  1. Locate and disengage brake to get access to tire; this model has cantilever brakes.
  2. Squeeze the two handles together shown in the first picture and that should allow you to lift up the cable.
  3. The actions of squeezing and lifting should be done at the same time, as the cable is stuck in place if the handles aren't squeezed together.

  5. Use a 15mm torque wrench to loosen and remove the bolt and washer located on each side of the wheel.
  6. With the bolt and washer removed, lift the bike frame and separate the tire.

  8. Unscrew the valve cap, then deflate the tire by pressing down on the pin with your finger or a lever wedge, if necessary.

  10. If unable to remove tire from frame with hands, use a lever wedge.
  11. To use lever wedge, pick a spot along the rim of the tire that aligns with a spoke. Place the curved part of the wedge under the tire's edge, and press down on the lever to lift the tire up over the edge of the rim, then clip the wedge on the spoke.
  12. Use a second lever wedge around 3 or 4 inches away, and it should now be easy enough to remove one side of the tire off the rim by hand.

  14. Lift and push on the tire so one side is off the rim and the tire tube is now exposed.
  15. Go to next step to remove tire tube located at the air valve.

  17. Carefully guide the tire valve through the rim and remove the tire tube by pushing it through the tire rim.
  18. When removing tire tube, be careful not to puncture tire tube or damage valve.

  20. From left to right in the picture, nhow that the tire tube, rim and tire have been separated, replace any or all if necessary.

  22. Place the tire back on one side of the rim, making sure there is enough space to add the tire tube back.
  23. Step image Step image Step image
  24. Insert the tire tube back into the tire by first aligning the valve with the valve hole in the rim.
  25. Push the tire tube valve gently through the hole in the tire rim, then push the rest of the tire tube between the tire and the rim.
  26. Excessive force will damage the valve or puncture the tire.

  28. Use lever wedge or hands to get both sides of the tire into the rim.
  29. At this stage, it should be easy enough to get both sides of the tire back into the rim, but if you are struggling along the last area, you can use a tire wedge in the opposite way as step 4 to get the tire back in the rim.
