Alcatel Telic 1 Minitel Teardown
ID: 163600
Description: This guide shows how to open an Alcatel Telic 1...
Steps:
- The plastic is 40 years old! It is therefore much more brittle than recent plastic (even if its residual elasticity shows excellent original quality).
- TIP: work in a warm room (minimum 20°C, 22°C is perfect) on a device that has been allowed to reach room temperature.
- Photo 1: keyboard closed, screen placed on a mat, and after cutting the label with a utility knife so as not to tear it, push on the snap fit to open the underside of the cover.
- Photo 2: do the same on the opposite side.
- Photo 3: under the handle, lift the 2 tabs on each side to remove the cover.
- Note: a cover that has been in place for several decades may be stuck due to dust or other debris. Use a little force if necessary...
- Photo 1: power wires. You can unplug them to remove the cover completely or just pass the plug through the hatch hole.
- Photo 2: unplug the 3 Telecom cable plugs. I would recommend keeping said cable in case an emulator is created one day.
- Photo 1: Pull the small side levers to unlock the keyboard ribbon cable. Check for any oxidation and address it if necessary.
- Dust the entire electronics assembly with air, using a brush if needed. Let it dry for a few hours before reassembly if necessary (liquid air may be sprayed by some canisters).
- Visually inspect the components, especially the capacitors. Verify that no component has been bent or is too close to another (risk of a short circuit).
- If everything looks correct, you can reassemble everything and power it on.
