Steps:

1. Press the power button to power on the espresso machine.

2. Pull out and empty the water tank and drip tray.

3. Pull out the water filter from the water tank.

4. Pour a packet of descaler (or a descaler tablet) into the water tank.
5. Fill the water tank with fresh water to the descale line located on the side of the water tank.
6. If you do not have a descaler, pour a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water into the water tank instead.

7. Reinsert water tank and drip tray.

8. Position the steam wand above the drip tray.
9. If you wish to prevent splashing, place a tall bowl or cup under the steam wand.

10. Press the menu button.
11. Turn the knob labelled “Filter Size” counterclockwise until the “descale” label is blinking on the display.

12. Press down on the “Filter Size” knob to select descale.
13. The letter d will appear on the display and the one cup button will illuminate.

14. Press the one cup button to enter descale mode.
15. d3 will appear on the display and water will pour from the group head.

16. Wait for the display to show “d2.”
17. Rotate the right dial to the hot water icon to descale the hot water dispenser.

18. Wait for the display to show “d1.”
19. Rotate the right dial to the steam icon to descale the steam wand.

20. Wait for the display to show “r.”
21. Rotate the right dial back to the neutral position.
22. r means "rinse." You are now in the rinsing phase of descaling your espresso machine.

23. Pull out and empty the water tank.
24. Fill the water tank with fresh water to the max line.
25. Reinsert the water tank.

26. Pull out the drip tray.
27. Empty the drip tray.
28. Reinsert the drip tray.

29. Press the one cup button to initiate the rinse cycle.
30. “r3” should appear on the display.
31. Wait for the display to show “r2”.
32. Rotate the right dial to the hot water icon to rinse the hot water dispenser.

33. Wait for the display to show “r1.”
34. Rotate the right dial to the steam icon to rinse the steam wand.

35. Once the rinse is complete, the grind amount option will appear on the display.
36. Rotate the right dial back to the neutral position.

37. Pull out the water tank.
38. Reinsert the water filter.
39. Refill the water tank with fresh water.

40. Pull out and empty the drip tray.

41. Reinsert the water tank and drip tray.
42. Your expresso machine should be clean and produce better tasting drinks!
