Steps:

  1. Caution: Use a non-contact voltage tester or a multimeter to make sure that the breaker is not electrically charged. If you do not have access to a multimeter, tap the breaker box with the back of your hand. If you use the palm of your hand and there is a charge, your hand will clench, making it hard to remove your hand from the box.
  2. Turn off your heat pump unit's breaker.

  4. Remove the emergency shutoff switch by firmly grasping it and pulling it out.

  6. Use a 5/16 nut driver to remove the single bolt and remove the cover by sliding it downwards.

  8. Using an insulated screwdriver, tap two of the capacitor's ports at a time to remove any excess charge.

  10. Unplug and remove the capacitor from the unit.

  12. Replace and plug in the new capacitor.
  13. The brown wire will go to the Fan port.
  14. The yellow wires will go to the C port.
  15. The blue wire will go to the Herm port.
  16. As long as the wires are on the correct port, it does not matter which connector you use.

  18. Replace the cover on your unit by sliding it upwards and replacing the single bolt.

  20. Plug in the Emergency Shutoff switch.
  21. Make sure that the connectors are on the lower side.
