  8. Boil the water until it starts steaming.
  9. Use tongs to hold the ring and place it in the steaming water.
  10. Boiling water can cause burn injuries when splashed onto skin.

  12. Release the grip on the ring, and let the ring sit at the bottom of the pot.
  13. Remove the tongs from the pot and set them aside.
  14. Boil the ring in the water for 5 minutes.
