Description:
Steps:
- SMILING SHARK FLASHLIGHT (China) low-cost model, but very useful, as it is 100% plastic, I use it at work, it is very light, it is easily carried in a pocket, and it is useful for checking battery racks, since being 100% plastic there is no risk if it falls onto the batteries.
- The problem with this flashlight is that it does not withstand falls very well, it "comes apart," on several occasions it has already fallen and the black ring of the lens and the lens fly off, in the last fall, the ring and the lens came out, the latter was scratched by the ground, and the button and the ring that holds it in place came off, with the ring being lost.
- This is how the flashlight looks when it falls: the front ring comes loose, the lens (which got scratched in the last fall, and in this fall the button retaining ring and the power button also came off).
- The parts came loose, but notice: NOTHING was broken.
- During its last drop, the power button and the retaining ring came loose; I was able to locate and recover the button, but the ring was in a fairly inaccessible and dirty area, making it impossible to locate.
- It's time to improvise a solution. I have improvised a button retaining ring using a plumbing O-ring. It's larger, but it can be trimmed.
- Checking the O-ring and trimming it to fit the gap.
- Before securing the O-ring with quick-drying glue, check that it functions correctly.
- Secure the O-ring by applying 4 small drops of glue on the sides so it does not affect the button.
- Due to the fall, in this case on a concrete floor, the lens was scratched when picking it up. To prevent the light emitted by the flashlight from being inefficient, the plastic lens needs to be repaired by polishing it with toothpaste.
- A white, whitening-type toothpaste or similar is best.
- First, wash the lens with water and dish soap to remove abrasive particles.
- Next, apply a small amount of paste directly onto the lens.
- Apply a bit more toothpaste to a cloth; for this, I recommend using textured kitchen cloths so the polishing is faster.
- Spread the paste with your finger and rub the lens, preferably in circular motions.
- Rub the lens on the cloth. Check the polished area every minute to see if it is working.
- Depending on the type of plastic, you will see the effects of the polishing within 3 to 4 minutes.
- Once the lens is polished, wash it with water and dish soap to remove any remaining toothpaste.
- Dry it carefully with a cloth or paper towel.
- Once the lens is clean and dry, we can place it into the flashlight.
- Before placing the ring, apply 4 small drops of glue on the sides to prevent the ring from coming loose again in the event of another drop.
- BE CAREFUL with the glue, use very small drops; it is much better if you apply them with a driver bit or a toothpick. APPLY A SMALL AMOUNT TO THE SIDES OF THE BLACK RING, NOT ON THE LENS
