Twingo III Phase 1 Valve Clearance Check (2014-2019)
ID: 169317
Description: This guide explains how to measure the valve...
Steps:
- Open the trunk.
- Remove the trunk carpets.
- Unscrew the 6 screws by hand or with a T50 socket.
- Lift and set aside the engine hood.
- Release the wire harness sleeve from the cylinder head.
- Unplug the ignition coil connector.
- Unscrew the ignition coil fastener screw.
- Remove the ignition coils.
- Unscrew the camshaft position sensor fastener screw.
- Remove the camshaft position sensor.
- The spark plugs do not need to be removed. They can help keep the cylinders water resistant during the rest of the procedure.
- Undo the following screws.
- Remove the cylinder head cover upper housing, taking care with the gasket.
- Remove the following screws.
- Remove the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors.
- Remove the upper heat shields.
- Remove the upper catalytic converter mounts.
- The exhaust manifold/catalytic converter assembly does not need to be removed.
- Undo the following snap fit.
- Gently pull on the fuel line.
- Take the necessary precautions: fuel will leak.
- Remove the cylinder head cover fasteners, starting with the outer screws and finishing with the inner screws.
- Use a suitable tool to remove the valve cover.
- Gasket material is present on the following areas.
- Use a feeler gauge to check the clearance between the tappet and the back of the cam. It may be necessary to turn the crankshaft by hand.
- Intake: between 0.35 mm and 0.45 mm.
- Exhaust: between 0.46 mm and 0.54 mm.
- If the value is outside the tolerance, the tappet will need to be replaced. See wiki for the tappet correspondence table.
- To remove a tappet, the camshaft must be removed. To remove the camshaft, the timing system must be removed. See guides.
- Thickness of the new tappet to choose = (ideal clearance - clearance measured with the worn tappet) + thickness marked on the worn tappet.
