Repairing a freezer drawer with a broken front panel.
ID: 169328
Description:
Steps:
- A freezer drawer broken from a fall is repaired with an ALUCOBOND aluminum sheet and rivets.
- 1st: For the pride of repairing something yourself that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
- 2nd: Due to the disproportionate price of these replacement parts, their cost is very high because manufacturers are not interested in appliances lasting many years; they are interested in having you decide to replace them because of the price of the parts.
- Step 1, we must reassemble the broken plastic parts as much as possible, using super glue or similar and duct tape for reinforcement.
- This step is performed to have a base for later reinforcement.
- Reinforce the side with duct tape while it dries.
- The material to be used for the repair, ALUCOBOND panels, is a sandwich-like panel made of aluminum – plastic – aluminum.

- If ALUCOBOND is not available, aluminum or galvanized sheet metal can also be used, but the latter may rust and would need to be painted.
- Cut a piece to the total size of the front panel.
- Proceed with the trimming to ensure the best possible fit along the sides.
- Continue trimming the front shape.
- Trim the front spacers to provide resistance for the handle.
- Drill 5 mm holes for rivet installation.
- Drilling and riveting.
- The front is reinforced with L-brackets and the rivets are reinforced with a washer.
- Interior view with the L-bracket reinforcement.
- View of the front already riveted with 1 cm wide rivets.
- Detailed interior views.
- Detail views of the front panel.
- Drawer repositioned in the freezer; it is now in perfect working condition and sturdy.
- Final appearance.
