  29. Photograph 4. Disconnect the fuel tank from the filler hose or pipe. End of Step 7!
  30. Step 8:
  31. Photograph 1. Support the fuel tank with an engine hoist or a hydraulic jack. You can use the jack from your Camry!
  32. Note: You will be able to see a mark on the bottom of the fuel tank; it is the center of the tank, which is where you should position your jack. This will provide stability when lowering the fuel tank.
  33. Photograph 2. Remove the 4 bolts from the 2 fuel tank straps or brackets.
  34. Lower the engine hoist or the jack to remove the fuel tank.

  40. Remove the Charcoal Canister assembly, take it to your workbench, and perform the following tests!....
  41. Step image Step image Step image
  42. Visually inspect the charcoal canister assembly for cracks or damage.
  43. If cracks or damage are found, replace the charcoal canister assembly.
  44. The charcoal canister and the leak detection pump form an ASSEMBLY.
  45. Photo 1. Check the canister operation. With the purge port closed, blow 5 kPa (0.7 psi) of air into the vent line port and check that air flows out of the air line port.
  46. If the result is not as specified, replace the charcoal canister assembly.
  47. Photo 2. With the vent port closed, blow 5 kPa (0.7 psi) of air into the air line port and check that air flows out of the purge line port.
  48. If the result is not as specified, replace the charcoal canister assembly.
  49. Photo 3. Check for air leaks in the charcoal canister. See the video in the introduction of this guide.
  50. Step image Step image Step image
  51. Photo 1. Check the charcoal canister leak detection pump sub-assembly. Connect a positive (+) battery cable to terminal 5 and a negative (-) cable to terminal 1. Use cables with alligator clips and your Camry battery!
  52. Check that a clicking sound is heard from the leak detection pump. If the result is not as specified, replace the charcoal canister leak detection pump.
  53. In my result, the leak detection pump clicked..!
  54. It is normal for there to be an air leak at the electrical connector.
  55. Important note: The pump module is an assembly and it has 2 more components integrated into it: the Vent Valve and the Charcoal Canister Pressure Sensor.
  56. When the Vent Valve gets stuck, it triggers Code P2420. Change the leak detection pump for a new one and the Check Engine light will clear when you turn your Camry back on!
