Steps:
- Check if your brake pads are worn down. If they are less than ΒΌ of an inch thick, it is time to replace them.
- First, unscrew the pinch bolt on the left front brake using an adjustable wrench.
- Unhook the brake cables from both sides.
- Starting with the right brake pad, unscrew the bolt seen in the left side of the brake caliper using an adjustable wrench.
- Take out the brake pad and the bolt that held it in.
- Make sure to save this bolt assembly.
- Make sure the new brake pad says "R front".
- Unscrew the bottom nut of the new brake pad using an Allen wrench.
- Slide the bolt assembly that was saved onto the new brake pad.
- Screw the nut back on using an Allen wrench.
- Put the new brake pad back into the holder located near the wheel and screw the bolt on the left side using an adjustable wrench.
- Also, tighten the bottom nut of the new brake pad using an Allen wrench.
- Make sure the brake pad is parallel to the tire. This will ensure that the brake pad hits the wheel correctly.
- Hook the brake cable back in on the right side.
- Repeat steps 4-9 on the left side: unscrew the bolt to take out the old brake pad, put the new brake pad back on to the holder near the bike wheel, and screw everything back into place.
- Use an adjustable wrench and Allen wrench as described before.
- Hook the brake cable back in on the left side.
- Screw the pinch bolt back onto the brake system using an adjustable wrench.
- Sandpaper your brakes to maintain symmetry on either side of the wheel.
- Lubricate the brake cables using brake oil to make sure the brake system runs smoothly.
- Do a test run for the new brake pads and make sure they apply friction as they are supposed to.
