Olympus U1(Mju, Mju I, Stylus) Lens Shutter Flex Cable Replacement

Description:

Steps:

1. Unscrew the four screws marking by circles. Then you can take the back part off. Take care of the light shade stripe at the arrow. If you want keep it not break, drop little alcohol and carefully lift it up.
2. Do not touch the part in the red circle!

3. Discharge the capacitor immediately.

4. Desolder the 3 shutter and FPC connection wires.
5. You can take the front cover off. Take care of the LCD screen.

6. Desolder the FPC connection to body and film cassette code contacts.
7. Unscrew the screw at the right down corner.

8. Unscrew the screw for Shutter Flex, Board FPC and Flash connection.

9. Carefully lift the main board up.
10. Unscrew the 2 screws.

11. Press two side simultaneously and gently, take lens module out.

12. Some Flex has jump wire by the previous repair, it's recommend to replace the Flex with new one.
13. Unscrew the 2 screws to take lens module apart.

14. Gently remove the glued light shades.
15. Split the two glued parts by a knife.
16. There are two holes on the lens barrel, gently push the hole with some little tips and take the top part off.

17. The handle pointed by the arrow is very important. If the shutter is okay, no need to continue to disassemble the shutter.
18. Hold that pin, keep the shutter open and take the Optocoupler out.
19. Replace the Flex Cable with new one and assembly back to test.

20. Reglue.
21. Leave enough length for the movement of inner part.

22. Additionally, after replacing the Flex, check two contacts using a multimeter at scale diode. If the contact okay, shutter not trigger, the main trigger Capacitor may worn out, replace with new one(220uf) and try again.
