Description: Prereq to remove the rear cameras to isolate...

Steps:

  1. Heat an iOpener and apply it to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.
  2. A hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate may also be used, but be careful not to overheat the phone—the display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.
  3. Step image
  4. Apply a suction handle to the back cover, as close to the center of the right edge as possible.
  5. Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the cover and the frame.
  6. If you have trouble creating a gap, apply more heat to further soften the adhesive. Follow the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  7. Insert an opening pick into the gap.
  8. Step image Step image Step image
  9. Slide the pick back and forth along the right edge to separate the adhesive.
  10. Leave the pick inserted near the bottom right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

  22. Rotate the opening pick around the bottom left corner to separate the adhesive.
  23. Step image Step image
  24. Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner.
  25. Slide your pick toward the top left corner to separate the adhesive.
  26. Leave the pick in the top left corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

  30. Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner.
  31. Rotate it around the top left corner to separate the adhesive.
  32. Step image Step image Step image
  33. Slide your opening pick to the top right corner to separate the adhesive.
  34. Leave the pick in the top right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
  35. Step image Step image
  36. There's a remaining patch of adhesive directly under the flash.
  37. Line up the tip of an opening pick with the flash cutout.
  38. Slide the opening pick under the top of the back cover until you feel it start to snag on the adhesive.
  39. You should see the opening pick through the flash cutout.
  40. Keep sliding the pick toward the bottom of the phone until you feel the adhesive completely separate from the back cover.
  41. Avoid touching the rear cameras with your pick. Pushing against the lenses risks damaging them.
  42. Step image Step image Step image
  43. Grab and remove the back cover.
  44. If your cover is still sticking to the frame, slide an opening pick around the perimeter until the cover completely separates.
  45. During reassembly:
  46. This is a good point to power on your phone and test all functions before sealing it up. Be sure to power your phone back down completely before you continue working.
  47. Remove any adhesive chunks with a pair of tweezers or your fingers. Apply heat and isopropyl alcohol (90% or greater) if you're having trouble removing the adhesive.
  48. If you're using custom-cut adhesives, follow this guide.
  49. If you're using double-sided tape, follow this guide.

  51. Use the point of your spudger to pry up and disconnect the wireless charging coil press connector from the motherboard.
  52. To re-attach press connectors, carefully align and press down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other side. Don't press down on the middle. If the connector is misaligned, the pins can bend and cause permanent damage.

  54. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the thirteen 3.5 mm‑long screws securing the wireless charging coil and the loudspeaker:
  55. Six screws securing the wireless charging coil
  56. Seven screws securing the loudspeaker

  58. Insert the point of your spudger in the notch at the top left corner of the loudspeaker.
  59. Pry up to unclip the loudspeaker from the frame.
  60. Step image Step image Step image
  61. Use your fingers to lift the loudspeaker away from the frame to fully separate it.
  62. Remove the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker from the frame.
  63. During reassembly, press around the perimeter of the loudspeaker to clip it to the frame.

  67. Use your spudger to pry up and disconnect the primary and secondary interconnect cable press connectors from the daughterboard.
  68. Step image Step image Step image
  69. Repeat the previous step for the primary and secondary interconnect cable connectors on the motherboard.
  70. Step image Step image Step image
  71. Remove both interconnect cables.
  72. Step image Step image
  73. Insert the tip of your spudger between the left edge of the antenna press connector and the sliver shield on the motherboard.
  74. Fragile surface mounted-components surround this connector. Prying on other edges of this connector risks dislodging them from the board.
  75. Pry up and disconnect the antenna press connector.

  79. Use your spudger to pry up and disconnect the front camera press connector.
  80. Step image Step image
  81. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two 3.5 mm‑long screws securing the motherboard.
  82. Step image Step image
  83. Insert the flat end of your spudger between the top edge of the motherboard and the frame, near the earpiece speaker cutout.
  84. Twist the spudger to lift the motherboard up and out of the frame until you can grip it with your fingers.
  85. Remove the motherboard.
  86. During reassembly, make sure all of the cables are out of the way before placing the motherboard back into the frame.
  87. Step image Step image Step image
  88. The three rear cameras are slotted into each other and should be removed from top to bottom.
  89. Flip over the motherboard to expose the rear camera press connectors.
  90. Use the point of a spudger to pry up and disconnect the ultrawide camera press connector.
  91. Step image Step image
  92. The ultrawide camera is hooked into the motherboard and the main camera by metal pegs.
  93. While holding the motherboard, lift the ultrawide camera out of its peg holes and remove it.
