Purging air from the Coolant System
ID: 174326
Description: This Guide covers the simplest method to bleed...
Steps:
- Before starting make sure that the engine is cold, or it has at least been off for a while.
- The parts you will work on are marked in the image. The disassembly order is also indicated in the image. (1-4)
- For ease of access, remove the top cover of the air manifold. Then, with a flat screwdriver (a large size is recommended) loosen the clamp to separate the hose.
- Loosen the clamp only enough to free the hose, don't remove it completely.
- Once the air inlet is removed, use a small Phillips screwdriver to free the brake fluid reservoir.
- Unscrew the screws that hold it in place and move it enough to allow greater comfort and space to perform subsequent steps.
- Now, with a #10 wrench, unscrew the screw on the second hose. At this point, you can decide whether to move the hose slightly or remove it completely.
- If you decide to move it slightly, without removing the hose from the back, turn it downwards... a little bit is sufficient.
- If you decide to remove the tube completely, be sure to carefully check its installation when replacing it. The tube is also connected behind the air filter, and it can be very difficult to see the gasket. It is crucial to ensure it is installed correctly to avoid problems with the air intake system.
- Once the previous steps have been completed, identify the bleed plug located at the bottom of the cooling system. Use your fingers to unscrew the cap, allowing any trapped air to escape.
- While unscrewing the cap, observe the coolant level in the reservoir. Make sure it does not drop below the minimum level. If the fluid level is at the minimum, screw the cap back on and add more coolant.
- If when you unscrew the cap you see the coolant comes out flowing without bubbles or foam, the system is already purged and you can screw the cap back on.
- Please note that the coolant may be very hot if you have used the vehicle recently. This can cause burns. Use gloves or paper, or let it cool.
- Ready! You've just bled your vehicle's coolant system yourself and you've just gained some knowledge.
