  4. Heat an iOpener and apply it to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.

  8. Apply a suction handle to the back cover, as close to the center of the right edge as possible.
  9. Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the cover and the frame.
  10. If you have trouble, apply more heat to further soften the adhesive.
  11. Insert an opening pick into the gap.
  12. Step image Step image Step image
  13. Slide your opening pick along the right edge between the back cover and the frame to slice through the adhesive.

  36. Step image Step image Step image
  37. Insert a fifth opening pick directly above the camera flash cutout.
  38. Insert the opening pick under the top of the back cover until you feel it start to snag on the flash adhesive.
  39. Insert the pick deeper into the phone until you feel the adhesive completely separate from the back cover.
  40. Don't insert the pick any deeper than its center point to avoid damaging the rear cameras.
  41. Step image Step image
  42. Pick up the back cover by its edges and remove it from the phone.
  43. If your cover is still sticking to the frame, slide the tip of an opening pick around the perimeter until the cover completely separates.
  44. During reassembly:
  45. This is a good point to power on your phone and test all functions before sealing it up. Be sure to power your phone back down completely before you continue working.
  46. Remove any adhesive chunks with a pair of tweezers or your fingers. Apply heat and isopropyl alcohol (90% or greater) if you're having trouble removing the adhesive.
  47. If you're using custom-cut adhesives, follow this guide.
  48. If you're using double-sided tape, follow this guide.

  50. Use the point of your spudger to pry up and disconnect the wireless charging coil press connector from the motherboard.
  51. To re-attach press connectors, align the connector carefully over its socket and press down with your fingertip—first on one side, then the other—until it clicks into place. Don't try to force the connector into place. If you're having trouble, reposition it and try again.
  52. Step image Step image
  53. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the thirteen 3.5 mm‑long screws securing the wireless charging coil and the loudspeaker:
  54. Six screws securing the wireless charging coil
  55. Seven screws securing the loudspeaker
  56. Step image Step image Step image
  57. Insert the point of a spudger in the notch located on the left edge of the loudspeaker assembly.
  58. Pry up the loudspeaker to release its clips.

  60. Use your fingernail or the flat end of a spudger to pry up the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker assembly away from the frame.
  61. Remove the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker from your phone.
  62. During reassembly, press around the edges of the loudspeaker to clip it to the frame before reinserting the screws.
  63. Step image Step image Step image
  64. Insert the flat end of a spudger under the battery cable press connector (located on the motherboard) and pry up to disconnect it.
  65. Step image Step image
  66. Insert the point of a spudger under the screen cable press connector at the bottom left corner of the phone and pry up to disconnect it.
  67. Step image Step image
  68. Repeat this process for the other end of the cable located on the motherboard.
  69. Step image Step image
  70. Remove the screen cable from the phone.
  71. Step image Step image
  72. Align the back cover with the frame and press down evenly with your fingers to lightly adhere it to the phone.
  73. Don't apply new adhesive at this step, as you'll need to remove the back cover again to finish reassembly. The old adhesive will be enough to keep the back cover in place while you replace the screen.
  74. If you have already removed the adhesive, hold it in place while flipping your phone over, being careful not to drop or bend the back cover.
  75. Flip the phone over so the screen is facing up.
  76. Step image Step image Step image
  77. If your screen is badly cracked, lay overlapping strips of packing tape over the glass to protect yourself and make disassembly easier.
  78. Make sure there's a smooth area near the top edge big enough for your suction cup to stick to.
  79. Step image
  80. The gap between the front glass and frame is very small. You'll need a thin, rigid tool such as an iFlex to create an initial gap.
  81. Take the following safety precautions while removing the front glass during the next steps:
  82. Don't grip the iFlex or similar metal tools by the edges—they're very sharp.
  83. The front glass may shatter and spread shards of glass around your workspace. Consider wearing gloves and safety glasses to protect yourself.
  84. Step image Step image Step image
  85. Use a hair dryer or heat gun to heat the top edge of the screen until it's almost too hot to touch.
  86. Be careful not to heat the phone hotter than this—the battery is susceptible to heat damage.
  87. Step image
  88. Apply a suction handle to the center of the screen's top edge, as close to the edge as possible.
  89. Insert the iFlex at a downward angle in the gap between the top edge of the front glass and the frame.
  90. Lift the suction handle with strong, steady force and lower the iFlex so it slides under the front glass. A large portion of the front glass may separate—that's fine.
  91. The iFlex only needs to be inserted just enough to separate the front glass and create an initial gap. If inserted too far, it may damage the front-facing camera.
  92. Step image Step image Step image
  93. Replace the iFlex with an opening pick.
  94. Slide the opening pick around the top left corner of the phone, separating the glass from the display itself.
  95. Step image Step image
  96. Slide the opening pick down the left edge of the display to separate the glass from the display.
  97. Step image Step image Step image
  98. Slide your opening pick across the bottom edge, under both the glass and display panel to separate them from the frame.
  99. If you're having trouble separating the display from the frame, heat the bottom edge of the screen with a hair dryer or heat gun until it's almost too hot to touch to soften the adhesive.
  100. Step image Step image
  101. Apply a suction handle to the center of the screen's top edge.
  102. Pull up on the glass until it is perpendicular to your phone.
  103. Step image Step image Step image
  104. Lift the glass and display layer together towards the top of your phone to separate the adhesive securing them to the phone.
  105. If you're having difficulty, heat the display until it's almost too hot to touch.
  106. Step image Step image
  107. Remove the glass and display from the phone.
