STIHL MS 150 TC Spark Plug Replacement

ID: 175613

Description: Introduction If your STIHL MS 150 TC chainsaw...

Steps:

  1. Situate yourself so that you have a flat workspace suitable for the disassembly.
  2. If this repair is performed poorly, it could cause irreversible damage, to both material and human.
  3. The repair exposes you to sharp elements such as the chain, as well as to products that can harm your health (fuel, chain oil). It is therefore imperative to wear gloves and appropriate clothing!
  4. (Translator's addition: Loose clothing is hazardous as it can be caught or snag on sharp items, shorts and short-sleeved shirts are inappropriate as they provide no protection to arms and legs... eye protection when cleaning, etc.)

  6. Now that you are equipped, the repair can commence!
  7. Start by turning your chainsaw over so that the sprocket cover is facing you.
  8. Next, take up your special Stihl tool (multi-wrench / spark plug wrench), or a size 13 socket wrench.

  10. If you have the STIHL multi-wrench, use the side suitable for the M8 nut (13 mm). Then unscrew the nut completely.
  11. Alternatively, if you are using a 13mm socket wrench, simply unscrew the nut.
  12. Once the nut is completely unscrewed, set it safely aside, you must not lose it.

  14. Now start removing the sprocket cover by pulling it outward.
  15. At this step, make sure that the chain brake is properly disengaged (moving chain). If this is not done, it could cause damage to the clutch.
  16. Also check that the handguard arm comes out correctly from its housing (see image 2).
  17. Then you can carefully remove the sprocket cover, as shown in photo 3.

  19. After removing the sprocket cover from your chainsaw, you should have a view like this of your machine.
  20. Over time and use, this area accumulates dirt and sawdust. It is therefore, preferable to clean this area before reassembly.
  21. During cleaning, you must be particularly careful not to damage certain components of the machine. The clutch contains small parts as well as many springs. For cleaning products, you can use mild industrial cleaners. Brake cleaner may be used with caution, or use Stihl Varioclean.

  23. Remove the spark plug wire (black rubber) from the spark plug with your fingers. If you cannot, use pliers and gently pull it off.
  24. If you use pliers, be sure not to damage the spark plug wire.

  26. Once the spark plug cap is removed, grab a 16mm spark plug wrench or socket wrench.
  27. Then, loosen the spark plug and gently remove it by hand.
  28. During this operation, make sure that no debris falls into the spark plug hole, as this could subsequently damage the engine. If this happens, leave a message under this post.
  29. To replace your spark plug, you must obtain a spark plug from a reputable brand like NGK with the correct part number for your machine. If you do not know it and are not sure about the part number for your machine, leave a comment under this post with the exact model, and I will be able to help you.
  30. To tighten your new spark plug, screw it in by hand until it seats, then tighten it by about 1/4 turn. Do not overtighten it, as this could damage the engine. 1/16 turn for a used spark plug.
