Checking for debris obstructing the drain pump impeller of a Bosch dishwasher.
ID: 175743
Description:
Steps:
- Bosch and Balay dishwasher, drainage error, or water emptying issue in Bosch dishwashers, applies to various models.
- The machine stops, it may display an error in the form of LEDs or an error message on the screen depending on the machine, and there are several cm of water left inside.
- 1st Step: remove the filter and drain all that water.
- In the event of a draining or emptying problem in your dishwasher, this check applies to various Bosch models.
- The first thing we will have already done is remove the filter and completely empty the water from the bottom of the sump; we can use a ladle, and for the last bit, we extract it using a sponge or a cloth.
- Visually check that there are no broken pieces of glass clogging the pump inlet, or a toothpick, olive pit, or anything else that shouldn't be there.
- I recommend using a flashlight for good lighting, as the area is quite dark.
- Once the initial visual inspection is ruled out, the next step is to remove the white or gray pump cover, depending on the drain pump model.
- It is snapped into place, so you must shift it slightly to the left and pull it upward; this will expose part of the drain pump impeller.
- Photo 1: Once the cover is removed, if there are any water remains, we must dry them well to be able to see properly.
- Photo 2: Once the area is dry, we can now observe the propeller.
- Photo 3: We will check the area again, now with the propeller half exposed, and move it with your finger. CAUTION: it must turn smoothly and easily; if it feels forced, it is damaged (this is quite subjective).

- Once this simple check is complete, we will replace the pump protective cover by snapping it into place, reinsert the filter, and test the machine again. If it repeats the problem, the next step will be to remove the drain pump; I detail this in another document, but to do so, you must drain all the water again.
- CAUTION: check that there is no water left. Dry it thoroughly with a sponge, as when the pump is removed, all that water would fall into the bottom tray, creating an additional problem (activation of the cork float of the anti-overflow safety system).
