Rc helicopter teardown
ID: 175918
Description:
Steps:
- First, analyze the helicopter as a whole and determine in what sections you will tear it down in.
- I've divided the helicopter into 6 different sections.
- Rear
- Propeller
- LHS Structure
- RHS Structure
- Main Frame and its components
- Bottom
- Here I have tackled the first section and removed the rear propeller structure from the helicopter.
- All the parts here came off fairly easily with the use of a Phillips head screwdriver.
- Rear side tail | Length - 96mm; Width - 43mm
- Rear top Tail | Length - 71mm; Width - 44mm
- Rear propeller | Length - 110mm; Width - 14mm
- Tail Brace | Length - 180mm; Width - 3.5mm
- After removing the helicopter's cover, I now had access to the structural parts.
- I could then remove the LHS structure of the helicopter.
- The dismantling here was pretty good, although there were a couple of parts that needed to be removed carefully so that they wouldn't break in the process.
- LHS Inner frame | Length - 130mm; Width 60mm
- LHS Outer piece | Length - 120mm; Width - 46mm
- Cover holder | Length - 23mm; Width - 22mm
- Here I have removed the large propellers to make the helicopter easier to work with.
- Once again with the use of a Phillips head screwdriver, the propellers came off very easily.
- Now you can see the helicopter is really starting to come down.
- Main Propeller | Length - 210mm; Width - 36mm
- Propeller Holders | Length - 15mm; Width - 14mm
- Once I removed the LHS structure, I went ahead and started on the RHS structure which was all removable until the Helicopter's On/Off switch was caught.
- This RHS structural piece will be removed later on once the switch is disconnected.
- RHS Inner frame | Length - 130mm; Width - 60mm
- RHS Outer Piece | Length - 120mm; Width - 46mm
- Once the main structure was taken apart, it was time to focus on the main propeller.
- Up until now, the disassembly has been pretty straightforward, but now there will be pieces that will have to be forced apart, due to them being machine pressed.
- Here, I've disassembled the main propeller.
- As some of the parts were pressed together, they were pulled apart with force.
- Propeller Inner Frame | Length - 190mm; Width - 9.5mm
- Top propeller weights | Length - 310mm; Width 15mm
- Main Propeller spinners | Length - 47mm; Width - 10mm
- Top propeller wing connector | Length - 53mm; Width - 24mm
- Mid way Propeller connector | Length - 53mm; Width - 27mm
- Propeller to frame connector bottom | Length - 22mm; Width - 20mm
- Before I moved onto the main components, I deconstructed the base of the helicopter.
- This was probably the easiest part of the helicopter, as it had no wires or forcefully connected pieces. It all disconnected with ease and came off neatly.
- Bottom rail | Length - 160mm; Width - 4mm
- Helicopter base plate | Length - 160mm; Width - 45mm
- Rail holders | Length - 106mm; Width - 45mm
- Light | Length 5mm; Width - 2mm
- Here in the final stage, all of the main components have been separated, whether it was through force or a Phillips-head screwdriver.
- All of the main parts were cut from the motherboard in order to neatly illustrate what is being used.
- Motherboard | Length - 50mm; Width - 32mm
- Propeller Motor | Length - 45mm; Width - 15mm
- On/Off Switch | Length - 18mm; Width - 4mm
- Rear Propeller Motor | Length - 27mm; Width - 9mm
- Charging Point | Length - 17mm; Width - 15mm
- Rear Light | Length - 28mm; Width - 11mm
- Here, I made a tally with all of the screw details from each section, which I'll now outline.
- Phillips Head 2.5 | Head - 3.2mm; Shaft - 2.5mm; Thread - 7
- Phillips Head 6.5 | Head - 3.1mm; Shaft - 6.5mm; Thread - 12
- Phillips Head 7.5 | Head - 3.2mm; Shaft - 7.5mm; Thread - 9
- Phillips Head 4.5 | Head - 3.3mm; Shaft - 4.5mm; Thread - 9
- Phillips Head 5.5 | Head - 3.3mm; Shaft - 5.5mm; Thread - 6
- Phillips Head 5 | Head - 3.2mm; Shaft - 5mm; Thread - 6
- Phillips Head 3 | Head - 3.3mm; Shaft - 3mm; Thread - 7
