Disassembly and Reassembly of Melitta Caffeo CI Bean Container for Deep Cleaning

ID: 186200

Description: This guide shows you how to remove the bean...

Steps:

  1. Turn the lid over so that the foam padding on the inside is visible.
  2. The release tab for the bean container is located approximately in the marked area.
  3. Carefully remove the foam padding from the ground coffee chute...

  5. ... until you can see the release tab.
  6. Use your thumb to carefully push the tab away from the chute (red arrow).
  7. Simultaneously, move the bean container in the same direction with your other hand.
  8. Note: This will be a bit tricky, as the release tabs and the bean container opening will probably stick to the foam. But with a little patience, you'll get there. The foam mat could also be removed from this area beforehand. You would just have to "repair" more adhesion points later.
  9. Once the release tabs are accessible, the bean container can finally be removed.

  11. Use the Torx screwdriver to loosen the screw on the cover and remove both.
  12. Remove both semicircular black sliders.

  14. The actuating shaft has a circumferential groove. The partition wall has the corresponding spring in the appropriate place. Both prevent the shaft from being moved out of position.
  15. However, the shaft also has a longitudinal groove for the small gear wheel. If you turn the shaft so that the longitudinal groove rests on the spring, the locking length becomes smaller and you can push the shaft over the spring with a little controlled force.
  16. This is achieved by turning the selector lever to the left.

  18. Carefully push the transparent partition on the gear wheel to the side so that it bends slightly (in the picture, this is upwards) and at the same time pull the turned lever (as described in the previous step) outwards (in the picture, this is to the left). This will free up the groove and allow it to slide over the spring.
  19. This can be a little fiddly. But it worked for me right away. It was more that I had more problems when adjusting for these instructions. However, I always managed to get the axle out without breaking the partition.
  20. Incidentally, the picture only shows the arrows being pressed on the gear wheel. But the bent partition is clearly visible. And you can see that the axle lifts out of the spring.
  21. Then, on the underside, use the small screwdriver to loosen/pry/push the tabs out of their anchors while pulling on the partition.
  22. Finally, all the individual parts are separated. (The bean container lid, which is not shown in the picture, is of course also included).

  24. At this point, you can clean the individual parts as you see fit.
  25. The gear wheel only fits onto the axle in one direction. It has a small nose that must fit into the longitudinal groove of the axle. Looking at the side facing away from the lever, the gear wheel fits correctly onto the axle when the widening (quarter circle inside the gear wheel) runs counterclockwise from the nose.
  26. In the second picture, the nose is at the top, i.e., at 12 o'clock position. Incidentally, the lever is at the 6 o'clock position. The widening must then cover the area from the 9 to 12 o'clock position.
  27. You must remember this position/alignment!
  28. In the third picture, you can see small notches on the teeth at 3 and 9 o'clock position on the gear wheel in this position. These will be important later on.

  30. Once the partition has been inserted in the correct position and its tabs have snapped into place at the bottom, the gear wheel can be held in the predetermined orientation to the axle in the slot provided in the partition.
  31. Then insert the axle and, if necessary, thread it into the gear wheel by turning it back and forth.
  32. Finally, push the axle in firmly but carefully until it stops. You will hear a “click” when it is in place. The axle is now secured again.
  33. Step image Step image
  34. Insert both semicircular sliders.
  35. The sliders also have a small notch at the top of the “flag.” This must match the corresponding notches on the left and right of the gear wheel.
  36. The lever must point vertically upwards, i.e., toward the opening of the bean container.
  37. Insert the cover for the sliders and screw it back on.
  38. The sliders tend to come loose from the gear wheel and their correct position. Even without a third hand, with a little patience you can still manage to put the cover on. Once the cover is in place, the sliders can't come loose anymore.

  40. Place the bean container correctly on the housing cover and position it in front of the four retaining tabs. Press down firmly so that there is no gap between the housing cover and the container. There is now still some space at the front towards the powder chute.
  41. Push the container towards the powder chute until it clicks into place.
  42. Finally, repair the damaged adhesive on the foam mat from step 2 as best you can using double-sided tape.
  43. Alternatively, you can skip the repair. However, there have been isolated reports on the internet that water vapor can collect under the bean container after it has been replaced (presumably without reattaching the adhesive).
