Steps:

  1. Press and hold the stop button.
  2. Press and hold the power button.
  3. Release the stop button.
  4. Press and release the stop button 5 times.
  5. The power button must be kept held down. The Error and Power lights will alternate with each press of the Stop button.
  6. Release the power button.
  7. Wait approx. 1 min
  8. Nothing happens for several seconds. Then the printer performs a few internal movements. Finally, the screen turns on and remains blank (black).
  9. Error code 5B00 indicates that an internal counter in the device has reached 100.
  10. Let's start by checking the value of this counter.
  11. Using ServiceTool, in the 'Main' tab, under 'Clear Ink Counter', click the 'Set' button.

  12. Locate the following value on the 2nd line:

  14. If you are dealing with error code 5B00, then you should see
  15. D=100.0

  16. In this step, we will modify the ink absorber counter for the printer's ink collection tray.
  17. Using the Canon Service Tool, look for the 'Ink Absorber Counter' section on the main tab.
  18. In the 'Counter value(%)' field, choose the value 0 (zero).
  19. Confirm by clicking the 'Set' button.
