Sony SRS-X2 Bluetooth speaker replacement battery replacement

ID: 200315

Description: This guide shows the steps for "Sony SRS-X2...

Steps:

  1. As a first step, place the speaker on its back. The perforated grille on the front is clipped into the housing via 4 plastic pins seated in rubber bushings—that is, plastic pin into rubber. It can therefore be carefully pulled out upwards. To do this:
  2. Use a dull kitchen knife with a rounded tip to carefully slide under the gray rubber lip that goes around the metal speaker grille. You can see how thick it is in the photo to estimate how deep you need to go. In the 3rd photo, the blue arrows show you where the pins hold the grille in place. Please pry upwards slightly here!
  3. Carefully brace the knife against the rubber lip and move the grille upwards. Always do this at the 4 mentioned points all around, only a little bit at a time, otherwise the plastic pins will break.

  5. It should now look like the first picture. Please do not touch the two speaker membranes, they are very delicate! The 4 blue arrows are no longer relevant; now remove all the screws you see (marked in red). Note: There are 3 different screw lengths!! Thanks, Sony engineers!
  6. To do this, look at the thick blue circles. I have marked the short ones with K and the longer ones with L inside the housing using my sharp tweezers. All others are of equal medium length. Otherwise, the plastic could break if you insert the wrong screws.
  7. Now you can pull the plate with the two speakers vertically upward, as shown in image 2. Please do not touch the two speaker membranes, they are very delicate!
  8. In image 3, you are already inside where we need to reach the replacement battery. Do you see it held at the bottom with a plastic bracket and cushioned with foam rubber? Let's continue with step 3.

  10. In my hand, I am holding the removed mounting frame and in the next image, I am removing the replacement battery. This is connected to the electronics with a connector (top left in the image). Please unplug it and plug in the new replacement battery. You can get one ready-made and cheap at pollin.de and reichelt.de
  11. When installing, it would be nice to have a little padding for the replacement battery. After all, it is a portable speaker that could get dropped. Use cardboard, bubble wrap, or whatever you have. As always: do not overtighten the screws, everything is plastic. Only tighten until it is flush – done!
  12. And now assemble it back in reverse order, it goes quickly. Remember the different screw lengths! Please push the perforated cover in carefully and evenly all around; the pins break off easily! You will be rewarded with an astonishingly long battery life, since newer replacement batteries last significantly longer than the originals did back then.
  13. Happy Music!!!
