Sew down jacket shoe Technique
ID: 205139
Description: This is for getting a shoe together that has...
Steps:
- Identify the section that has to be closed.
- The important thing is is measure length to cover. The width should allow room to fold the side, end on along the sewing line. This trick is going to make the patch unnoticeable to the eye. Get enough of same material as the shoe. and cut a section.
- To make this look like it came straight from the factory get a color matched thread. Then get the smallest gauge needle that can be threaded.
- The thread should be a generous double the total length of material.
- Grab a handful of pins and the cut to size material. Fold the end and both sides to avoid eye contact with ugly fraying cut fabric. Make pilot holes for your needle that also hold(see photograph).
- Start at one end with your needle and thread. Remove the first pin to start and aim for the pilot hole with needle always. Pull the thread on first stitch through until the distance is even. As you sew there is going to be more pins available. Insert them further down the fabric to pilot hold.
- If it is difficult to pull needle through the pilot hole get a small channel lock or pliers. Clamp down on the needle and pull it through with ease.
- Tie a strong knot, cut the thread short, and drop a dab of glue on it.
- Nicely does it ,that looks brand new!
