Kayak Handle Replacement

Steps:

  1. Detach the handle and paracord strap from the kayak.
  2. Step image
  3. Insert the screwdriver into the head of the bolt on the bottom side of the handle.
  4. Apply pressure to the bottom of the handle.
  5. Remove the top part of the handle by using the screwdriver to pop it out.
  6. Caution: Do not let the hardware fall into the hull, as it may slide into unreachable areas of the bow or stern.

  8. Pull the paracord out of the handle so they are separate from each other.

  10. Cut the end of the paracord using your knife or a pair of scissors.
  11. Insert the paracord into the bottom side of the handle through the small hole.
  12. Pull it through so each side of the paracord is evenly inserted.

  14. Tie a knot with the paracord using both ends of the already inserted paracord.
  15. Pull it tight and be sure that the knot is as close to the edge of the paracord as possible.
  16. Cut the excess paracord at the end of the knot if there is any.

  18. Pull the paracord through the handle so that the knot is now inside the handle.
  19. Add the cover of the handle back onto the top. Secure it down tightly.

  21. Locate the metal bar on the kayak and place the looped end of the new handle underneath it.
  22. Pull the paracord all the way through until the handle stops it.
  23. Loop the paracord over the plastic handle.
  24. Pull the handle tightly to secure it in place.
