Ember Travel Mug 1 Battery Replacement
ID: 206484
Description: I haven't seen anyone do this for the Original...
Steps:
- Remove the rubber base ring by inserting a pry tool around the edges. Make sure to look closely, as you will have to get the tool in between the rubber/plastic ring and the underlying metal plate. It is easy to get under the metal retaining plate instead of in-between the two pieces where you need to be. Pry evenly and work your way around.
- To reinstall this piece once repairs are complete, align the plastic tabs, press flush and turn clockwise.
- Remove the 4 - T5 Screws and the 4 - T9 Screws as shown.
- Remove the temp control ring.
- Note there is a split ring halfway down the base as well as a spacer ring on the bottom lip. The spacer ring has notches that needs to be aligned when reinstalled. The split ring likes to fall down during reassembly. Take care when reinstalling the temp control ring, if the split ring is not sitting in its groove it will cause the temp ring to bind
- This was the hardest part. I accomplished this by screwing in the lid and inserting a pry tool and slowly working my way around. Not prying, but more using it to pull the inner metal container.
- This did end up damaging the lid and it is no longer functional. I think possibly using an expanding pipe plug (as photoed) that fits snugly into the inner metal container would give you enough grip to seperate the two sleeves.
- Now that you have the sleeves separated, you can access the main board and battery
- Using a non conductive pry tool, disconnect the battery cable. (Red, Blue, Yellow, Black Wire) Next disconnect the brown ribbon cable.
- In the photo, located in front of my fingers are two small tabs holding down the main board. Carefully release these tabs then slide the board out from its holding slots. Take care not to bend the board too far up as the retaining slots the board sits in are very fragile and will break easily.
- You can now pull up gently on the lithium battery to remove it.
