ID: 206879
Description: If your road bike's shifter hoods are peeling...
Steps:
- Find the model number and the brand. We will be replacing the Shimano ST-6700 shifter covers.
- Finding the exact model and brand is very important as other models or brands may not fit.
- The model number and brand may not be in the same location. Check along and around the shifter hoods.
- Use a hairdryer or heat gun to heat up the covers to make them more malleable.
- Remove the old covers by pulling the front up and rolling the back part over.
- Clean the surface using paper towels and isopropyl alcohol.
- Coat the surface in more alcohol.
- This makes installation easier and isopropyl is fast drying meaning after it dries, it should become more rigid.
- Heat up the new covers with the hair dryer on a low setting to avoid melting the part.
- If you do not have a hair dryer or heat-gun you may boil some water and heat up the covers by submersing them for a few minutes. Be careful removing them; if the water is too hot, use tongs or other tools to remove the covers.
- If you are using a different brand of shifter covers, check to see if they correspond to the left or right handlebars of the bike.
- Pull the covers up.
- Pull the covers on by pulling them up and over the top of the hoods.
- Locate the seam near the top of the hoods.
- Set the seam into the groove at the top of the bars.
