Steps:
- Insert a spudger into the seam between the speaker body and each end cover, then gently pry to remove both side covers.
- Insert a spudger into the space between the grille and speaker frame to pry the mesh grille covering the front speakers.
- Using a Phillips #1 screwdriver, remove the eight 12.7 mm screws from the front cover.
- Remove four 8.75 mm PH1 screws around the corners of each speaker.
- Flip the speaker so the bottom is facing up.
- Use a spudger to remove the rubber pads that support the speaker. Insert a spudger under each rubber pad on the bottom of the device and lift them away.
- If you plan to reuse them, be careful when removing the pads to avoid ripping them.
- Insert a spudger under each rubber pad on the top handle and lift it away to expose the three screws below.
- Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver to remove the three 6.75 mm screws.
- Using a spudger, pry open the front half of the speaker.
- The front and back halves of the speaker are connected by several cables. Open the speaker slowly and avoid pulling on the cables, as they can be damaged easily.
- Using a Phillips #1 screwdriver, remove the two 12.5 mm screws securing the motherboard to the speaker.
- Remove the motherboard from the device.
- Remove the two 9.0 mm battery screws to separate the battery from the motherboard.
- Use the point of a spudger to push on alternating sides of the connector to "walk" it out of its socket to disconnect the battery connector from the motherboard.
- It may take a lot of alternating before the connector comes out. Be patient, and don't pull on the cables.
- If the connector doesn't release using the spudger, use a pair of tweezers to firmly grip the sides of the connector and pull straight away from the socket.
- If you're having trouble, try rocking the connector side-to-side to loosen it.
- Carefully peel back the black tape covering the battery in the holder to access it, then replace the battery.
