Steps:

1. Insert the end of a spudger or opening tool in the seam at the top of the controller.
2. Slide it around the edge to release the retaining clips.
3. Use the spudger to separate the front and back plastic outer shell of the controller.
4. Both panels should separate from the front of the bumpers.
5. This takes some patience to ensure the panels don’t crack.
6. Flip the controller so the bottom is facing up.
7. Use the spudger to separate the plastic covering on the hand grips.

8. Use a JIS #0 screwdriver to remove ten 10 mm screws from the mid-frame.
9. Keep screws organized.

10. Use your hands to pry the back panel of the controller.
11. You now have access to the back buttons (2 on each side).

12. Remove the two JIS #0 scews securing the battery.

13. Lift the actuators out of the way to access the screws beneath.
14. Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the two 6.9 mm screws under the voice coil actuators.

15. Remove the face cover from the controller.
16. The buttons may fall out in the process of removing the face cover. Be careful to not to lose them.
17. Now you have access to the internal components of the controller.

18. The battery is the black rectangle shown in this figure.
19. Use a JIS #0 screwdriver to remove six screws.
20. One at each corner [6 mm].
21. One in the middle of the battery [3mm].
22. One right above the battery [4 mm].

23. Use the spudger to gently disconnect the small circuit board on top of the battery cover.
24. Use the angled tweezers to pull the white JST connectors out of their sockets.

25. Remove the battery from the controller.
26. The battery is glued to the black cover.
