Steps:
- Turn off power to the dishwasher before working on it.
- Unplug the dishwasher or switch off the dishwasher circuit breaker so the unit can't turn on while you work.
- Shut off the water supply before disconnecting any water line.
- Disconnect the water supply line and drain line if you need to pull the dishwasher out from under the cabinets.
- Use the proper tools for the plumbing connections on the dishwasher if the lines don't disconnect by hand.
- Keep the drain line aimed into the sink or a safe drain area if it still contains water.
- Open the dishwasher and remove the filter and its cover from the bottom of the tub.
- Remove any standing water from inside the dishwasher before working under the unit.
- Draining the tub first helps prevent water from running back into the base and making you repeat the repair.
- Look for an i20 code if it appeared with the i30 code.
- An i20 code can point to a draining problem that may have caused the dishwasher to overfill and fill the drain pan.
- Clear any remaining water in the tub before continuing, especially if the dishwasher had an i20 code.
- Find the insulation on the side of the dishwasher near the base.
- Lift the insulation out of the way by releasing it from the clips that hold it in place.
- Avoid tearing the insulation so it can be clipped back into place during reassembly.
- Look into the drain pan beneath the dishwasher for standing water.
- The drain pan is designed to catch overflow before it reaches the kitchen floor.
- Water in the pan can lift the styrofoam float and trigger the i30 code.
- The dishwasher pump may keep running while the float is raised.
- Use a shop vac or paper towels to remove the water from the drain pan.
- Dry the pan as well as you can so the styrofoam float can drop back down.
- Make sure no standing water remains around the float before reassembling the dishwasher.
- Clip the side insulation back into place.
- Reinstall the filter cover and filter in the bottom of the dishwasher.
- Reconnect the water supply line and drain line if you disconnected them.
- Turn the water supply back on and check the connections for leaks.
- Restore power to the dishwasher.
- Run the dishwasher and confirm the i30 code is cleared and the pump no longer keeps running.
- If the i30 code returns, check for the source of the leak or overflow before continuing normal use.
- If an i20 code returns, troubleshoot the draining problem before clearing the drain pan again.
