Steps:

  1. Turn off the Russell Hobbs washing machine and make sure it isn't running.
  2. Unplug the washing machine before wiping the dispenser drawer area by hand.
  3. Gather a brush reserved for cleaning, a wet cloth, and hot, soapy water.
  4. Keep water away from the control panel and electrical parts.
  5. Stand at the front of the washing machine.
  6. Find the dispenser drawer in the top-left corner of the front panel.
  7. The dispenser drawer may also be called the detergent drawer.
  8. Pull the drawer straight out gently until it reaches the stop.
  9. Press down the blue release button inside the drawer.
  10. Keep pressing the button while pulling the drawer out of the machine.
  11. Lift out the fabric softener level indicator if it is fitted in the drawer.
  12. Set the indicator aside so you can access the compartment for cleaning.
  13. Refit this indicator when the drawer is clean.
  14. Soak the drawer with hot, soapy water.
  15. Use a brush to scrub the drawer inside and out.
  16. Remove mold, detergent powder residue, fabric conditioner residue, residue, and sludge from all compartments.
  17. Scrub until the drawer is clean and residue no longer wipes off.
  18. Wipe inside the dispenser drawer cavity with a wet cloth and hot, soapy water.
  19. Use the brush to scrub moldy or gunky corners if the cloth can't reach.
  20. Hold the brush firmly and keep it away from the holes inside the cavity.
  21. Dropping the brush down a hole can damage the washing machine.
  22. Reinstall the fabric softener level indicator if you removed it.
  23. Align the drawer with the grooves in the opening.
  24. Slide the drawer all the way in until it sits fully home.
  25. Open the washing machine door.
  26. Spin the drum by hand and check that it turns freely and quietly.
  27. Inspect the drum rubber door seal for debris, dirt, residue, and blockages.
  28. Wipe dirty areas with the wet cloth and hot, soapy water.
  29. Use the brush on the rubber seal if residue is heavy.
  30. Plug the washing machine back in.
  31. Run the hottest wash program available with no clothes in the drum.
  32. Select a 90 °C wash or Drum Clean option if the machine has one.
  33. Let the cycle finish to flush residue from the system.
