Steps:

1. Turn off the dishwasher's breaker before you begin.
2. If the dishwasher isn't on its own breaker, unplug it from under the sink or behind the dishwasher.
3. Keep the power disconnected until the repair is complete.
4. Open the door and locate the two mounting brackets under the front edge of the countertop.
5. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the brackets to the countertop.
6. The screw type may vary by dishwasher model or installation.
7. Close the dishwasher door.
8. Grip both sides of the dishwasher and gently wobble it forward.
9. Pull the dishwasher out only far enough to expose the latch assembly on top, about 4 inches from under the countertop.
10. Don't pull hard on the door if the latch is broken, because the door may not move the whole dishwasher.
11. Be careful not to strain the water supply hose, drain hose, or power connection behind the dishwasher.
12. Locate the latch assembly on the top front edge of the dishwasher, under the steel cover plate.
13. Use a T20 Torx screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the steel cover plate.
14. These are standard T20 Torx screws and don't need a security Torx bit.
15. Lift off the steel cover plate and set it aside with its screws.
16. Use a T20 Torx screwdriver to remove the screw holding the latch assembly.
17. Lift the latch assembly up and slide it sideways out of its mounting slot.
18. Keep the old latch nearby so you can compare it with the replacement latch.
19. Inspect the old latch for the small lever on the side of the assembly.
20. A broken latch may stay clipped up after the door opens and fail to drop back into position.
21. Compare the old latch with the replacement door latch assembly.
22. The replacement latch should have a lever that resets the latch when the door closes.
23. Replace the latch if the lever is snapped off or the latch won't reset.
24. Insert the replacement latch assembly into the mounting slot at a slight sideways angle.
25. Press the latch assembly down into place.
26. Make sure the latch sits flat and lines up with its screw hole.
27. Close and open the dishwasher door a few times to check the new latch.
28. Confirm that the door latches every time.
29. A latch problem can keep the door from sealing or make the Hall effect door sensor act as if the door opened during a cycle.
30. Use a T20 Torx screwdriver to reinstall the screw holding the latch assembly.
31. Set the steel cover plate over the latch assembly.
32. Use a T20 Torx screwdriver to reinstall the four cover plate screws.
33. Tighten the screws snugly, but don't overtighten them into the plastic latch assembly.
34. Gently shift the dishwasher back into the cabinet opening.
35. Keep the dishwasher steady, because it isn't bolted to the countertop yet and may wobble.
36. Don't pinch or strain the hoses or power connection behind the dishwasher.
37. Align the mounting brackets with their holes under the countertop.
38. Use a Phillips screwdriver to reinstall the two mounting screws.
39. Tighten the screws until the brackets are secure.
40. Close the dishwasher door and confirm that it latches properly.
41. Turn the breaker on or plug the dishwasher back in.
42. Run a wash cycle to confirm the door stays latched and the cycle doesn't stop as if the door opened.
