How to Replace an Adjustable Drawstring Cord in a Pant Leg Hem
ID: 219484
Description: Has the elastic drawstring cord of your pants...
Steps:
- Place your pants on a flat surface and flip the portion of the pant leg with the broken drawstring cord inside out.
- If the pants are wrinkled, feel free to iron them.
- Pull the elastic cord to be replaced out of the eyelet and remove the cord lock toggle.
- If the cord is still partially intact, use a pair of scissors to cut them for easy removal.
- Remove and place the cord lock toggle off to the side.
- Take your old elastic cord and measure out the same length of the new elastic.
- Cut about an additional inch longer of elastic cord to allow for easy sewing later on.
- Attach a safety pin to both ends of the elastic and thread one end through the existing channel.
- If the opening of the eyelet or drawstring is too small, use a seam ripper to create a larger opening.
- Guide the elastic cord through the channel in the pants hem.
- Pull the ends of the elastic cord through the eyelets.
- Remove the safety pins.
- Loop one end of the elastic through the cord toggle lock.
- If the elastic end is too frayed to fit through the cord lock toggle, snip the edge of the elastic slightly.
- Thread your needle and overlap each end of the cord by about ½”. Sew the elastic cord together. Try to keep your stitches small and evenly spaced.
- If you used a seam ripper earlier to create a larger opening to pull the drawstring cord through, hand sew that opening closed.
- Once sewn, push the elastic cord further into the pant hem to hide the sewn ends in the hem. Now you are done!
