Steps:

  1. Shut down the laptop, unplug the AC adapter, and remove every cable or device from the ports.
  2. Work on a clean, dry, well-lit surface with the display protected from scratches.
  3. Wear an anti-static wrist strap or touch grounded metal before handling internal parts.
  4. Don't work on the laptop while it is connected to power.
  5. If the battery is swollen, stop and don't press on the battery or palm rest.
  6. Use a screw organizer to keep screws separated by location.
  7. Turn the laptop over with the front edge facing you.
  8. Slide the battery lock and release latches to the unlocked positions.
  9. Lift the removable battery out of the battery bay.
  10. Hold the power button for 10 seconds to drain leftover power.
  11. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws securing the bottom service covers.
  12. Lift the service covers away from the lower case and set them aside.
  13. Take a clear photo of each screw area before removing more parts.
  14. If the optical drive blocks case screws, remove its retaining screw and slide the drive out.
  15. Check the battery bay, service openings, and optical-drive bay for hidden case screws.
  16. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove all visible lower case screws.
  17. Keep each screw with its cover, bay, or edge location.
  18. Don't mix long and short screws, because a long screw in the wrong place can damage the palm rest or motherboard.
  19. Stop if a screw doesn't turn easily, and check that the screwdriver fits the screw head.
  20. Turn the laptop over and open the display to a comfortable angle.
  21. Use a plastic opening tool to release the small clips along the keyboard or top-cover edge.
  22. Lift the keyboard or top cover only a few centimeters until the ribbon cables are visible.
  23. Don't pull the cover away while cables are still connected.
  24. If the keyboard is integrated into the palm rest, continue releasing the full palm-rest assembly instead.
  25. Take a clear photo of every ribbon cable before disconnecting it.
  26. Use a spudger to flip up each ZIF connector locking flap.
  27. Pull each ribbon cable straight out by its stiff pull tab or reinforced end.
  28. Disconnect the keyboard, touchpad, and power-button cables as they become visible.
  29. Mark these cables in the photo so their locations are clear during reassembly.
  30. Use a plastic opening tool to release the clips around the palm rest seam.
  31. Work around the front and sides until the top cover lifts without force.
  32. Lift the top cover away from the lower case.
  33. If the cover snags, stop and look for a missed screw or cable before prying again.
  34. Find the round DC power jack at the chassis edge where the AC adapter plugs in.
  35. Follow its cable to the DC-IN connector on the motherboard.
  36. Take a top-down photo and mark the jack, cable route, and motherboard connector.
  37. The Acer Aspire P253-E, P253-M, P253-MG, and P240 layouts are similar, but cable clips and screw locations may differ.
  38. If the jack is soldered directly to the motherboard, stop and use a board-level repair procedure instead.
  39. Peel back any tape securing the DC jack cable, and keep the tape if it is reusable.
  40. Use a spudger to loosen the DC-IN plug from the motherboard socket.
  41. Pull the plug straight out parallel to the motherboard, not upward.
  42. Don't pull on the wires, because wire damage can cause poor charging or shorts.
  43. Free the cable from its channels and retaining clips.
  44. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove any bracket screw holding the jack, if present.
  45. Lift the DC power jack out of its molded socket in the lower case.
  46. Remove any bracket or insulator holding the jack, if present.
  47. Note how the strain relief and cable bend sit inside the chassis.
  48. Set the damaged jack aside.
  49. Compare the replacement DC power jack with the old one before installation.
  50. Don't force a replacement jack that doesn't match the original part.
  51. Seat the barrel end fully in the chassis opening.
  52. Route the cable through the same channel and under the same clips.
  53. Reinstall any bracket, insulator, or tape removed with the old jack.
  54. Press the DC-IN plug straight into the motherboard connector until it is fully seated.
  55. Reconnect only the cables needed to power the laptop, such as the power-button cable.
  56. Install the battery or connect the AC adapter long enough to check the charging indicator.
  57. Keep hands and tools away from the motherboard while power is connected.
  58. Shut down the laptop and disconnect the AC adapter after confirming the charging indicator works.
  59. Remove the battery again before continuing if it blocks screws or covers.
  60. If the charging indicator doesn't work, disconnect power and reseat the DC-IN plug before reassembly.
  61. Place the top cover or palm rest over the lower case.
  62. Reinsert each ribbon cable into its matching connector using the photos as a location guide.
  63. Push each locking flap down to secure its ribbon cable.
  64. Press around the cover edges until the clips snap back into place.
  65. Confirm no cable is trapped along the perimeter or hinge area.
  66. Close the display and turn the laptop over.
  67. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to reinstall all lower case screws in their original locations.
  68. Don't overtighten the screws, because this can crack the plastic case.
  69. Reinstall the service covers and optical drive, if removed.
  70. Reinstall the removable battery.
  71. Connect the AC adapter and verify that the laptop powers on and charges.
