Steps:

  1. Unplug the dryer before removing any panels.
  2. Let the dryer cool completely before touching the heater, motor, or internal cabinet parts.
  3. Wear work gloves when reaching inside the cabinet because the sheet-metal edges can be sharp.
  4. Move the dryer so you can reach both the rear panel and the front of the cabinet.
  5. Pull the timer knob straight off the timer shaft.
  6. Turn the dryer around so the upper rear panel faces you.
  7. Remove the screws securing the upper rear panel with a 1/4 inch nut driver.
  8. Lift off the upper rear panel to expose the timer.
  9. Record the timer wire locations before disconnecting anything.
  10. Disconnect the wires from the timer terminals.
  11. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry off any tight terminals.
  12. Remove the two timer screws with a 5/16 inch nut driver.
  13. Lift the timer out of the control panel.
  14. Record the start-switch wire locations before disconnecting the wires.
  15. Disconnect the wires from the start switch.
  16. Remove the two start-switch screws with a 5/16 inch nut driver, then lift out the switch.
  17. Record the temperature-selector wire locations before disconnecting that switch.
  18. Disconnect the wires from the temperature-selector switch.
  19. Remove the temperature-selector switch screws with a 5/16 inch nut driver, then lift out the switch.
  20. Locate the ground wires connecting the control panel top to the dryer top.
  21. Remove the screws securing the ground wires to the control panel.
  22. Remove the two control-panel screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
  23. Lift the control panel up and pull it forward.
  24. Remove the control panel from the dryer.
  25. Pull the lint filter out of the top panel.
  26. Remove the two screws under the lint-filter cover with a Phillips screwdriver.
  27. Pull up on the rear corners of the top panel to release the front clips.
  28. Lift the top panel like a lid.
  29. Remove the top panel from the dryer.
  30. Remove the two front-panel screws with a 5/16 inch nut driver.
  31. There is one screw on each side of the dryer.
  32. Record the door-switch wire locations before disconnecting the wires.
  33. Disconnect the two door-switch wires.
  34. Hold the side panels down and lift the front panel upward.
  35. Lift the front panel off the lower hooks and remove it.
  36. Reach under the drum and release the belt from the motor pulley.
  37. Lift the drum and belt out of the cabinet together.
  38. Remove the idler pulley from the bottom of the cabinet.
  39. Record the motor wire locations before disconnecting the wiring.
  40. These notes will help you reconnect the motor correctly during reassembly.
  41. Disconnect the motor wiring.
  42. Turn the dryer around so you can reach the blower housing.
  43. Remove all rear-panel screws with a 1/4 inch nut driver.
  44. Move the rear panel out of the way.
  45. Remove the four screws securing the blower-housing cover with a 5/16 inch nut driver.
  46. Remove the four upper screws securing the rear drum panel with the same driver.
  47. Pull the rear drum panel forward to create working room behind the dryer.
  48. Work the blower housing out from behind the dryer.
  49. The housing is often tight, but removing it gives you better access for cleaning.
  50. Clamp large locking pliers onto the motor shaft.
  51. Fit a 13/16 inch open-ended wrench over the square section of the blower wheel that sticks through the rear panel.
  52. Push the wrench down to break the blower wheel loose from the motor shaft.
  53. Turn the dryer back around to the front.
  54. Spin the blower wheel off the shaft by hand.
  55. Remove the blower wheel from the housing.
  56. Grab the end of the front motor retaining clip with pliers.
  57. Pry the front retaining clip off the motor bracket.
  58. Pry the rear retaining clip off the motor bracket with pliers.
  59. Lift the motor out of the bracket and remove it from the dryer.
  60. Record the wire locations on the heater and thermostats before disconnecting anything.
  61. Disconnect the wires from the heater and thermostats.
  62. Locate the upper heater-bracket screw through the fixed hole in the rear panel.
  63. Lift the dryer top and look down at the bracket so you can see the hidden screw.
  64. Remove the upper heater-bracket screw with a long 1/4 inch nut driver or a long flathead screwdriver.
  65. Lift the heating-element assembly up and out of the dryer.
  66. Remove the screw securing the heating element with a 5/16 inch nut driver.
  67. Pull the heating element out of the housing.
