Steps:
- Turn off the dishwasher breaker before touching any wiring.
- Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the kick plate.

- Use a voltage detector to confirm the dishwasher power is off.
- Remove the screw securing the junction box cover, and set the cover aside.

- Turn the breaker on only for this voltage test.
- Keep your fingers on the insulated probe handles and don't touch exposed metal contacts.
- Set a multimeter to measure DC volts.
- Locate the row of five pins on the control board.
- Place one multimeter probe on pin 5 and the other probe on pin 2.
- A reading of about 14 volts DC means the control board is sending power to the user interface.
- A lit green LED on the control board also suggests the board is working.
- If the board LED is on and the pin test reads about 14 volts DC, the user interface is the likely failed part.
- If the green LED is off or the pin test doesn't show about 14 volts DC, troubleshoot or replace the control board instead.
- Turn the breaker off again before continuing.
- Raise the control board tray back into place.
- Use a screwdriver to reinstall the two screws securing the control board tray.
- Disconnect the wiring plug that runs from the control board to the user interface.
- Use a socket wrench to remove the two screws holding the door to the hinges.
- One hinge screw is on the far left, and the other hinge screw is on the far right.
- Look under each hinge area for the two small hinge-lock holes.
- Insert an Allen wrench into the hinge-lock hole on one side.
- Open the door until the hinge holes line up and the Allen wrench holds the hinge open.
- Repeat the same process on the other hinge.
- The hinges are spring loaded and can snap shut after the door is removed.
- Rock the door back and forth gently to work it free from the hinges.
- Don't pull the door away quickly, because the wiring is still zip tied to the dishwasher.
- Use snips to cut the zip ties holding the door wiring.
- Cut only the zip ties, not the wires.
- Lift the door away from the dishwasher.
- Wear work gloves if the sheet metal edges feel sharp.
- Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws that join the door halves.
- Remove the small vent cover from the door.
- Press down on the handle while lifting the inner half of the door.
- Separate the plastic outer door piece from the metal inner door piece.
- Disconnect the cable that comes from the control board to the user interface.
- Use a screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the user interface assembly.
- The two far-end screws are shorter than the two middle screws.
- Slide the user interface assembly out of the top of the door.
- Keep the screw locations organized so the long screws return to the center holes.

- Pry the two housing halves apart as each clip releases.
- This clip-release process is fiddly, so work slowly and avoid snapping the plastic tabs.
- Lift the old user interface board out of the plastic housing.
- Keep the failed board separate from the new board so you don't reinstall the bad part.
- Use the personality configuration sheet that comes with the new user interface.
- Find the dishwasher model number on the sheet and match it to the correct jumper positions.
- For model numbers beginning with GDT545, use personality number 14.
- Set jumpers 8, 4, and 2 to closed, and set jumper 1 to open for a GDT545 configuration.
- GE uses this user interface across several dishwasher models, so incorrect jumpers can make buttons perform the wrong labeled functions.
- Compare the jumper positions on the board to the diagram on the sheet before installing the board.
- Place the new user interface board into the plastic housing.
- Set the button piece back onto the housing.
- Press the housing together until all the clips snap into place.
- Slide the user interface assembly back into the top of the door.
- Use a screwdriver to reinstall the two long screws in the center holes.
- Use a screwdriver to reinstall the two shorter screws in the outer holes.
- Reconnect the wiring to the user interface.
- Align the teeth on the plastic door piece with the grooves in the metal door piece.
- Slide the plastic door piece down into place.
- Use the vent opening as an alignment check.
- Use a screwdriver to reinstall the two screws holding the door halves together.
- Reinstall the vent cover and tighten its screw.
- Work the door back onto the hinges, adjusting the angle until it seats correctly.
- Keep the Allen wrenches in the hinge-lock holes until the door is back on both hinges.
- Remove the Allen wrenches from both hinge-lock holes after the door is seated.
- Reconnect the user interface wiring to the control board.
- Turn the breaker on and confirm the user interface lights up.

- Use a socket wrench to reinstall the two screws that secure the door to the hinges.
- Reinstall the junction box cover and tighten its screw.

- Reinstall the kick plate.
