Steps:

  1. Turn the oven and all surface burners off before starting any inspection.
  2. A live electric stove uses 240 V and can seriously injure or kill you, so do live testing only if you understand basic electrical safety.
  3. Unplug the stove before touching wires, removing connectors, or measuring resistance with a multimeter.
  4. Wear safety glasses and insulated work gloves when moving the stove or working near wiring.
  5. Take a photo of each wire connection before disconnecting it.
  6. Locate the bake element inside the bottom of the oven cavity.
  7. Locate the oven temperature probe, which is the small finger-shaped sensor near the rear corner of the oven cavity.
  8. Locate the main control board or oven-control area, depending on the stove design.
  9. The control sends power to the bake element, and the temperature probe tells the control how hot the oven is.
  10. A bad temperature probe can stop the bake element from turning on or can cause incorrect oven temperatures.
  11. Turn on one surface burner and watch whether it glows red hot.
  12. A red-hot burner is a strong sign that the stove is receiving the proper 240 V supply for its heating elements.
  13. Turn the burner off as soon as the check is complete.
  14. The burner can cause burns or start a fire, so keep hands, tools, and loose items away from it.
  15. If the surface burners do not heat and the oven does not work, test the power supply with a multimeter.
  16. Open the oven door and visually inspect the full length of the bake element.
  17. Look for a hole, blister, burned area, break, or spot that looks like it sparked or melted.
  18. A visibly burned or broken bake element is bad and should be replaced.

  28. Measure from the other outside hot slot to the center slot and confirm about 120 V.
  29. Keep your fingers behind the probe guards and do not let the probe tips touch each other during live-voltage testing.

  35. Measure across the two outside terminals and confirm about 240 V.
  36. If the outlet readings are correct but the terminal-block readings are not, unplug the stove and inspect the cord and terminal-block connections.
  37. Unplug the stove again before doing resistance checks or touching the wiring.
  38. Confirm that the stove is unplugged.
  39. Find where the bake element passes through the rear of the oven and connects to two spade terminals.
  40. Pull one wire off one bake-element terminal to isolate the element for testing.
  41. Hold the connector, not the wire, when removing a spade terminal.
  42. Do not measure resistance on a powered circuit, because it can damage the multimeter and shock you.
  43. Set the multimeter to ohms.
  44. Touch one meter probe to each bake-element terminal.

  46. An open or no-continuity reading means the bake element is bad.
  47. Reconnect the bake-element wire after the test if the element is good.
  48. Keep the stove unplugged and locate the two wires for the oven temperature probe at the back of the stove.
  49. Disconnect the probe wires enough to measure the probe by itself.
  50. Set the multimeter to ohms and touch one probe to each temperature-probe terminal.
  51. At room temperature, a good probe should read about 1,080 ohms, or 1.08 kΩ.
  52. A small difference, such as 1,074 ohms, is normal.
  53. An open or shorted reading means the temperature probe is bad.
  54. Reconnect the probe wires after testing if the probe is good.
  55. Confirm that the stove has correct voltage, a good bake element, and a good temperature probe before condemning the control board.
  56. Unplug the stove before accessing the control-board area.
  57. Inspect the control board for burned areas, damaged relay contacts, or other visible faults.
  58. The small relays on the board control bake and broil power.
  59. If the other checks pass and Bake still produces no heat, replace the main control board as an assembly.
  60. Do not try to repair individual board relays unless you are trained for board-level electrical repair.
  61. Reconnect every wire that was disconnected during testing.
  62. Reinstall all access covers before restoring power.
  63. Move the stove back into position without pinching the power cord.
  64. Plug the stove in and test the bake function only after all covers and connections are secure.
  65. If the oven heats normally, monitor the first heating cycle to confirm stable operation.
